Am 24. Juni 1901 fand hier der ers\u00adte \u00f6ffent\u00adli\u00adche Markt\u00adtag statt. In einer Zeit, in der sich der Duis\u00adbur\u00adger Nor\u00adden durch Berg\u00adbau und Indus\u00adtrie rasant ent\u00adwi\u00adckel\u00adte und die Bev\u00f6l\u00adke\u00adrung stark wuchs, ent\u00adstand damit ein zen\u00adtra\u00adler Ort f\u00fcr Han\u00addel, Ver\u00adsor\u00adgung und Begeg\u00adnung.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Schon fr\u00fch war der Platz mehr als ein Ort zum Ein\u00adkau\u00adfen. H\u00e4nd\u00adler, Hand\u00adwer\u00adker und Land\u00adwir\u00adte boten hier ihre Waren an, w\u00e4h\u00adrend sich die Men\u00adschen tra\u00adfen, Neu\u00adig\u00adkei\u00adten aus\u00adtausch\u00adten und sozia\u00adle Kon\u00adtak\u00adte pfleg\u00adten. Der Markt\u00adplatz wur\u00adde zu einem wich\u00adti\u00adgen Treff\u00adpunkt des all\u00adt\u00e4g\u00adli\u00adchen Lebens in Marx\u00adloh.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Ein Platz mit wech\u00adseln\u00adden Namen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Auch der Name des Plat\u00adzes erz\u00e4hlt ein St\u00fcck sei\u00adner Geschich\u00adte. Zun\u00e4chst wur\u00adde er vor allem auf\u00adgrund sei\u00adner Funk\u00adti\u00adon als zen\u00adtra\u00adler Markt\u00adplatz von Marx\u00adloh bezeich\u00adnet und war auch unter dem Namen Neu\u00admarkt bekannt. Im wei\u00adte\u00adren Ver\u00adlauf folg\u00adten mit Hin\u00adden\u00adburg\u00adplatz und Tan\u00adnen\u00adberg\u00adplatz wei\u00adte\u00adre Bezeich\u00adnun\u00adgen, die jeweils den poli\u00adti\u00adschen Rah\u00admen\u00adbe\u00addin\u00adgun\u00adgen ihrer Zeit ent\u00adspra\u00adchen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Nach dem Zwei\u00adten Welt\u00adkrieg erhielt der Platz schlie\u00df\u00adlich sei\u00adnen heu\u00adti\u00adgen Namen zu Ehren von August Bebel (1840\u20131913), einem bedeu\u00adten\u00adden Ver\u00adtre\u00adter der deut\u00adschen Arbei\u00adter\u00adbe\u00adwe\u00adgung und Mit\u00adbe\u00adgr\u00fcn\u00adder der Sozi\u00adal\u00adde\u00admo\u00adkra\u00adtie. Der Name ver\u00adweist damit zugleich auf die indus\u00adtri\u00adel\u00adle Pr\u00e4\u00adgung Marx\u00adlohs und die enge Ver\u00adbin\u00addung des Stadt\u00adteils mit der Geschich\u00adte der Arbei\u00adter\u00adschaft.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Vom Wochen\u00admarkt zum Ein\u00adkaufs\u00adzen\u00adtrum<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Mit dem Wachs\u00adtum Marx\u00adlohs ver\u00ad\u00e4n\u00adder\u00adte sich auch die Bedeu\u00adtung des Plat\u00adzes. Im Lau\u00adfe des 20. Jahr\u00adhun\u00adderts ent\u00adwi\u00adckel\u00adte er sich zuneh\u00admend zum Mit\u00adtel\u00adpunkt des Gesch\u00e4fts- und Ein\u00adkaufs\u00adle\u00adbens. Ein wich\u00adti\u00adger Mei\u00adlen\u00adstein war die Er\u00f6ff\u00adnung des Hor\u00adten-Kauf\u00adhau\u00adses im Jahr 1965, dem heu\u00adti\u00adgen Marx\u00adloh Cen\u00adter, unmit\u00adtel\u00adbar am Platz.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Auch heu\u00adte ist der August-Bebel-Platz ein zen\u00adtra\u00adler Ort des Stadt\u00adteils. Zwei\u00admal w\u00f6chent\u00adlich fin\u00addet hier der Wochen\u00admarkt statt. Dar\u00ad\u00fcber hin\u00adaus wird der Platz f\u00fcr Stadt\u00adteil\u00adfes\u00adte, Infor\u00adma\u00adti\u00adons\u00adver\u00adan\u00adstal\u00adtun\u00adgen, Kul\u00adtur\u00adange\u00adbo\u00adte und B\u00fcr\u00adger\u00adak\u00adtio\u00adnen genutzt. Im Rah\u00admen des Teil\u00adpro\u00adjekts TP5 des Modell\u00advor\u00adha\u00adbens \u201eStark im Nor\u00adden\u201c plant die Stadt Duis\u00adburg eine umfas\u00adsen\u00adde Neu\u00adge\u00adstal\u00adtung des Plat\u00adzes und sei\u00adnes direk\u00adten Umfelds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Der Platz soll gr\u00fc\u00adner, lebens\u00adwer\u00adter und st\u00e4r\u00adker auf die Men\u00adschen aus\u00adge\u00adrich\u00adtet wer\u00adden. Mehr Gr\u00fcn\u00adfl\u00e4\u00adchen, zus\u00e4tz\u00adli\u00adche Auf\u00adent\u00adhalts\u00adm\u00f6g\u00adlich\u00adkei\u00adten sowie bes\u00adse\u00adre Bedin\u00adgun\u00adgen f\u00fcr den Fu\u00df- und Rad\u00adver\u00adkehr sol\u00adlen dazu bei\u00adtra\u00adgen, aus der heu\u00adte vor allem funk\u00adtio\u00adnal gepr\u00e4g\u00adten Fl\u00e4\u00adche wie\u00adder einen attrak\u00adti\u00adven Stadt\u00adplatz zu machen. Durch Ent\u00adsie\u00adge\u00adlung und die Redu\u00adzie\u00adrung von Stell\u00adpl\u00e4t\u00adzen soll der Ver\u00adkehr k\u00fcnf\u00adtig weni\u00adger Raum ein\u00adneh\u00admen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Gleich\u00adzei\u00adtig soll die mehr als ein Jahr\u00adhun\u00addert alte Markt\u00adtra\u00addi\u00adti\u00adon erhal\u00adten blei\u00adben. Der August-Bebel-Platz soll auch k\u00fcnf\u00adtig Markt\u00adfl\u00e4\u00adche, Treff\u00adpunkt, Ver\u00adan\u00adstal\u00adtungs\u00adort und leben\u00addi\u00adger Mit\u00adtel\u00adpunkt des Stadt\u00adteils sein.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Die Geschich\u00adte des Plat\u00adzes wird damit nicht been\u00addet, son\u00addern wei\u00adter\u00adge\u00adschrie\u00adben: Aus dem his\u00adto\u00adri\u00adschen Markt\u00adplatz soll ein zukunfts\u00adf\u00e4\u00adhi\u00adger Stadt\u00adplatz ent\u00adste\u00adhen \u2013 gr\u00fc\u00adner, viel\u00adf\u00e4l\u00adti\u00adger und mit mehr Raum f\u00fcr Begeg\u00adnung.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Aus\u00adblick<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Bereits im kom\u00admen\u00adden Jahr soll der Umbau des August-Bebel-Plat\u00adzes begin\u00adnen. In den kom\u00admen\u00adden Mona\u00adten ste\u00adhen daf\u00fcr noch die fina\u00adlen Beschl\u00fcs\u00adse und wei\u00adte\u00adren Vor\u00adbe\u00adrei\u00adtun\u00adgen an.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Anl\u00e4ss\u00adlich des 125-j\u00e4h\u00adri\u00adgen Jubi\u00adl\u00e4\u00adums wer\u00adden wir gemein\u00adsam mit dem Hei\u00admat\u00adver\u00adein Ham\u00adborn in den kom\u00admen\u00adden Wochen eine klei\u00adne Bro\u00adsch\u00fc\u00adre mit his\u00adto\u00adri\u00adschen Infor\u00adma\u00adtio\u00adnen und ein\u00addrucks\u00advol\u00adlen Bil\u00addern zur Geschich\u00adte des Plat\u00adzes her\u00adaus\u00adge\u00adben.
